Matthew Kilner Two Tenors
The young Aberdonian tenor sax-man is making waves wherever he plays and he’s back with a fabulous band featuring fellow young tenor tyro, Matt Carmichael. Two Matts/Two tenors, and a grooving rhythm section for some late night jazz that will fire up the Lamp! Matt Kilner is well known in Aberdeen Jazz as a key member of Hamlet, and he features in a huge range of bands, from duets with Neil Birse to the Aberdeen Jazz Orchestra. He’s just graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire and making his first steps as a pro musician. He’s going to make it big! He’s got everything a great saxophonist needs: time, tone, power, technique, and now, for his first Jazz Festival gig under his own name, a fantastic band.
Glaswegian, Matt Carmichael, is one step ahead of Kilner in that he’s already made his own debut album, “A Distinctive New Voice”(BBC Music), “Beyond special”(Jazz UK), “Utterly compelling”(Jazz Views),”Irresistible”(London Jazz News) are just some of many accolades. The two Matts front a band of youth and experience: Colin Black (guitar) and Pete Johnstone(keys), alongside two more great young musicians, Ewan Hastie (bass) and Richard Glassby (drums).
